Fortification: A defensive wall or other reinforcement built to strengthen a place against attack. Like adding extra locks on your dorm room door!
Militarism: The belief that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Like being ready for an unexpected pop quiz in every subject!
Conscription: Compulsory enlistment for state service, typically into the armed forces; essentially mandatory "school" enrollment but for military service.
