Santeria is an Afro-Caribbean religion based on Yoruba beliefs and traditions, with some Roman Catholic elements added. It was developed among West African slaves brought to Cuba.
Syncretism: The amalgamation or attempted amalgamation of different religions, cultures, or schools of thought.
Afro-Caribbean Religions: A group of religions originating among African slaves in the Caribbean that combine elements of both African and Christian (especially Roman Catholic) religious traditions.
Yoruba Religion: The indigenous religious beliefs and practices of the Yoruba people, an ethnic group from West Africa primarily residing in Nigeria and Benin.
