McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book 'The McDonaldization of Society' (1993). It refers to the process by which principles of the fast-food industry have come to dominate an increasing number of organizations in modern society. This includes efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control.
Efficiency: In this context, efficiency refers to completing tasks in the quickest way possible with minimal effort or waste.
Standardization: Standardization means establishing norms or requirements about technical standards. In terms of McDonaldization, it refers to creating uniform procedures that are followed regardless of individual circumstances.
Rationalization: Rationalization is a concept used in sociology to refer to the process by which traditional methods of social organization, characterized by informality and spontaneity, are gradually replaced by efficiently administered formal rules and procedures.
