Motivations refer to internal processes that activate, guide and maintain behavior over time. They drive us towards certain goals because we expect that achieving those goals will fulfill some sort of need or desire.
Intrinsic motivation: This type of motivation comes from within an individual and is driven by personal interest or enjoyment in the task itself.
Extrinsic motivation: This type of motivation comes from outside factors or rewards such as money or grades.
Drive theory: A psychological theory suggesting that humans have innate drives - like hunger or thirst - that motivate their behaviors in order to satisfy these needs.
