Definition

Resolution refers to the movement from dissonance (tension) to consonance (rest) in music.

Consonance: Harmonies or intervals that sound stable and pleasant.

Dominant: The fifth scale degree of a major or minor key, which creates tension and leads to the tonic (first) scale degree.
