In music theory, inversion refers to the rearrangement of the notes in a chord. It occurs when the lowest note of a chord is not its root.
Root position: This term refers to a chord where the root note is at the bottom.
First inversion: This term describes a chord where the third is at the bottom.
Second inversion: This term describes a chord where the fifth is at the bottom.
