An aquilifer was a standard-bearer in ancient Rome who carried the eagle standard (aquila) into battle. This position held great honor, as losing or capturing the eagle standard was considered extremely shameful for the legion.
Signifer: A standard-bearer who carried other important symbols or standards of the legion.
Vexillarius: A standard-bearer who carried a vexillum, which was a small square banner used by auxiliary units in the Roman army.
Imaginifer: A soldier responsible for carrying an image or bust of the emperor during military processions.
