A megalopolis is a chain of roughly adjacent metropolitan areas, which are interconnected with each other. This term is used to describe a region that consists of several large cities and their surrounding areas in close proximity.
Metropolitan Area: An area consisting of a densely populated urban core and its less-populated surrounding territories, sharing industry, infrastructure, and housing.
Urban Sprawl: The uncontrolled expansion of urban areas.
Conurbation: An extended urban area, typically consisting of several towns merging with the suburbs of one or more cities.
