Theodor Herzl was a Jewish Austrian journalist and political activist who is considered the father of modern political Zionism, a movement to establish a Jewish homeland.
Zionism: This is the national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in Israel.
Dreyfus Affair: A political scandal that divided France from 1894 until its resolution in 1906. It involved the wrongful conviction of Alfred Dreyfus, a French artillery officer of Alsatian and Jewish descent, for treason. This event influenced Herzl's Zionist ideas.
Jewish Diaspora: Refers to the dispersion of Israelites or Jews out of their ancestral homeland (Israel) and their subsequent settlement in other parts of the globe.
