The Korean conflict (1950-1953) was a war between North Korea (supported by China and the Soviet Union) and South Korea (supported by United Nations with U.S. as principal force).
38th Parallel: This is the line of latitude that roughly demarcates North and South Korea - think of it as an invisible fence separating two yards.
Armistice Agreement: A formal agreement to stop fighting - akin to shaking hands after an argument and agreeing not to fight anymore.
Kim Il-sung: He was the first leader of North Korea from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994 - consider him as the founding father or patriarch of modern North Korea.
