The Dutch Revolt, also known as the Eighty Years' War, was a revolt by seven provinces in what is now Netherlands against Spanish rule from 1568-1648. It resulted in independence for those provinces forming United Provinces or Dutch Republic.
Philip II: King of Spain during the start of Eighty Years' War; his policies led to discontent among Dutch nobles leading up to revolt.
United Provinces/Dutch Republic: The independent nation that emerged from the successful Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule.
William of Orange: Leader of the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule, he is seen as a national hero in Netherlands.
