Ancient Greece was a civilization belonging to a period of Greek history from the Greek Dark Ages of the 12th–9th centuries BC to the end of antiquity (c. AD 600). It's known for its contributions to philosophy, politics (democracy), arts, sciences and sports.
Democracy: A system of government where power is vested in the people who rule either directly or through elected representatives.
Philosophy: The study of fundamental questions about existence, reality, knowledge, values etc. Famous philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle were from Ancient Greece.
Olympics: An international sporting event held every four years. This tradition started in Olympia, Ancient Greece around 776 BC.
