Heat exchange refers to how organisms regulate their body temperature by gaining heat from or losing heat to their environment.
Homeostasis: The tendency of an organism or cell to regulate its internal conditions, usually by a system of feedback controls, so as to stabilize health and functioning.
Endotherm: An animal that is dependent on or capable of the internal generation of heat; a warm-blooded animal.
Ectotherm: An animal that is dependent on external sources for body heat.
